Abraham Ortega
Chef at Tabaiba* (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain)
Chef Abraham Ortega is responsible for the project behind the Tabaiba restaurant in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Abraham Ortega's evolution in the kitchen began at an early age, as a result of his daily life at home with his mother and grandmothers, who continue to inspire him to offer guests a haute cuisine experience with memories of familiar and recognisable flavours.
He trained at the Hotel Escuela de Canarias and after his time on the Spanish mainland and in Europe, he decided to return home to create a project that has been recognised in the Michelin Guide 2020 in the Bib Gourmand category, the El Santo restaurant.
Following this recognition, he decided to create his most personal project, Tabaiba. The philosophy of the restaurant is based on its local character, the presence of Canarian roots and close contact with the origin of the product.
Among the awards he has won are the title of Best Canarian Chef in the World in 2016, finalist in the Iberian region of the prestigious San Pellegrino Young Chef competition and third place in the Revelation Chef of the Year 2022 competition, organised by Madrid's Fusión gastronomy fair.
